HELLOFRESH CARDBOARD TOY
IDEATION
REFINING
FINAL DESIGN
what is it?
I created a cardboard toy and correlating instructions that allow users of the service HelloFresh to make a fake cooking set for their children entirely out of the meal-prep packaging.
what was my goal?
I wanted to make a product that allowed families to come together through cooking and engages children in the world of food. I also wanted to offer a possible solution for unsustainable packaging.
brainstorming
I started by simply creating a mind map of different potential products/designs that applied to a wide variety of companies using cardboard packaging.
prototyping
Initially, I created low-fidelity prototypes that corresponded to different companies. The easiest way to ideate was honestly just to start making random stuff and see what stuck.
down-selecting
After initial prototyping, I participated in several critique sessions to refine down to my final concept, a cooking set associated with the company HelloFresh. This resulted in another round of prototyping, but at a higher fidelity.
problem: I needed to establish the most important appliances and miscellaneous parts to include
solution: I just prototyped all of them and got critique on which seemed most valuable to the process
handle
Through critique, I defined the main cooking appliance for my product as a frying pan
problem: the handle needed to be both stable and easy to attach
Initially, I created a simple, one-piece handle with two folds that attached at the top rim of the pan - this was too flimsy and the connection was weak
solution: I developed a handle that was made with several layers and attached both through the side of the pan and over the top rim
